Welcome Back!

Hello Families-

We had a short and sweet week here at Rick Marcotte Central School. This week in math, we finished our unit of measurement by looking at proportion. We used our math text Jim and the Beanstalk to measure "giant" objects such as a watering can, rake or ladder. We then used one object to help us think about the heights of other objects, such as "how many hammers tall is the door?" We will complete our unit assessment next week and then move into a focused unit on money.

This Friday, our class went to the Flynn Theatre to see Rosie Revere, Engineer. This show featured characters from some of our favorite books including Rosie Revere, Engineer, Iggy Peck, Architect, and Ada Twist, Scientist. Here's a peek into our trip:

Our fabulous PTO has sponsored the Taiko Drumming Experience for Rick Marcotte Central School. On Friday, we had our kick-off assembly where experienced drummers coached us in a few Taiko phrases, taught us a little about the drums and put on an incredible performance. During the weeks of March 11th and March 25th, each class will get a 30 minute Taiko drumming lesson each day. Mrs. Rito will update us on an evening performance of our drumming skills!

Other Things to Ask Your Child About:
- Two quarters a day
- Thinking about our audience in our opinion letters
- Using a checklist to set writerly goals
- Same-book partnerships
- Say Something

Have a wonderful weekend,
Kelly
